Gift card and wire transfer scams are when a victim is tricked into buying a gift card or transferring money to the scammer.
How You Can Adapt From Gift Cards & Wire Transfer Scams:
- Talk and get help from someone else about your situation, you should never go through this alone
- Contact the bank company if it was a wire transfer to reverse/block the transfer
- Unfortunately, you can’t get your money back if you gave the scammer a gift card.
- If they have your information, you might risk having your identity stolen.
- Monitor transactions and other accounts to see if there’s other suspicious activity.
- File a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission: ReportFraud.ftc.gov
- Retain proof and documentation of the scam in case you need it in the future.
